So I haven't blogged in a while, but I have been busy making all sorts of things, mainly working on presents for children's birthday parties. One thing I have been astounded by in Sydney is how generous parents are with their gifts, I can understand spending a bit more on close friends but I'm not really into parting with $20-$30 for every party my child goes to. So I have started off with making up these flower hair tie kits, which I have extracted from the book
Sewing for Children by Emma Hardy, perhaps a bit naughty but I figure so long as I am not selling them.

Wow, at those amounts you'd almost want your child to be unpopular !!
I think your idea is lovely one for a present for a birthday party, so much more personal :)
What a great idea. I would be delighted if my daughter received one of these. I'm with you on the ott presents these days. I've been known to have a party for my children with 'no presents please' on the invitation. They always end up getting something- but usually only something little. It is more difficult now they are older, but I still stress with them that the party is for fun with their friends and receiving a present is appreciated, but not expected. You have inspired me- I might take to making something similar. Thanks. Cx
