Sew Busy!

I have been "Sew Busy" this weekend! It was brilliant! I spent Friday and Saturday night at a friends house sewing. We had a bit of trouble with the overlocker, trying to change thread, I thought we could just pull them through, well one came undone didn't! And of course, it had to be the hardest one to re-thread, we spent quite some time trying to figure it out. But it was a blast - and we are going to make it a weekly thing. Thanks - you know who!
So what did I sew? I made this peg pinny for a dear friend of mine, who has just had more plastic surgery after a double mastectomy. The peg pinny above is something I have been meaning to make her for a while. She had one and whenever I stayed with her I always volunteered to hang out the washing, so I could wear it. So for Christmas a few years ago she had one exactly the same made for me. But hers fell apart, so now I have made her a new one.
And this bra/top I made for her today. When we were there last weekend, she showed this top to me explaining how she was going to pay a seamstress to make her some more, as they were the only things she found comfortable now. So I offered to do it for her. When I was cutting out a pattern, I made the same piece three times and it was quite different each time. I had a good chuckle at myself, thinking - what an arrogant tart! I often forget I really am only a beginner at sewing and often over estimate my skills. But it all ended well, thank goodness, or there would have been tears.
I also managed to nearly finish another fairly big project, that I can't show you till after Christmas, but you'll all know what I mean when I say tonight I will be hand stitching the binding.

My Creative Space...

Yes I finally made up my mind and did it - isn't she beautiful? She is definitely a she, but she hasn't got a name just yet. After all the advice I got from my lovely bloggy friends (thank you guys), I ended buying this puppy which included five special feet, a freearm and a carry bag. And in Spotlight I found this thread at half price, so I thought I better buy at least all the colours I use most often.

Christmasy Polka Dot Swap

How are you all going with your Christmasy Polka Dot Swap?
I haven't made much progress, I usually spend alot of time deciding exactly what to do. Here's a sneaky peak of what I am up to...I'm not giving too much away I am afraid.
I have also been working on lots of Christmas presents, but I can't really show you them either, because I know my family sometimes pop by my blog - it's all so secret squirrel here at the moment.
Although if I get some time I will show you the progress I have made on my over the table playhouse.

A Historical Visit

In the weekend we went to our local historical village for their live day - so much fun! I have been waiting for an excuse to make my daughter a pioneers costume for ages and I made my two sons black ties.
I did promise to show you what I have been up to lately, but I have run out of time this week I am afraid. I still haven't found the cable for my little snap shot camera - so annoying! So I have had to start lugging around my big SLR.

Well, it's a hub of activity here, I've got my course tonight so I have been cutting fabric all day so I can sew it there. And we are going away for the weekend so I have been trying to tidy and pack for that - but you know what's more important right...

Sunday Stash

This is one of my favourite fabrics - I love it! One day I will make my daughter a quilt from it - if I ever get the guts to cut it :)

I've Got Something To Show You...

It's my first ever quilt - finished! I love it! For the backing I used polarfleece, because I wanted it to be really snuggly for my Baby J. I was a bit dubious about the fabrics as I was making it, but now that the borders and binding are on, I really love it.
The Stacked Coins Baby Quilt pattern was from Crazy Mom Quilts. Thank you so much Kate for talking me into using a pattern, rather than just making something up, I think you saved me from a disaster.

Have a good weekend ladies. I am going to be busy, busy, busy making stuff. Lots of things to share with you next week.

The Quilt Show Bargain

Hi there, thank you so much to everyone who commented about overlockers. I am going to go and check out the one I want on Saturday.
The quilt show I went to on Saturday was good, some of the work was absolutely amazing.
And check out my major bargain. I got Rosalie Quinlan's "I Remember -5 Part Block of the Month" [Pattern - I forgot to say]. It was marked down from $100 to $40 - I couldn't believe it - I have been admiring this quilt for some time now. My grandmother-in-law, who I went with, bought it for me for Christmas - thanks Oma Lily!

Christmasy swappy ladies how are you going? I hear some of you are so organised you have posted already - wow!

Overlocker Advice

I am seriously considering buying an overlocker, but not sure what to buy.
Janome have some really good deals on at the moment. I really like the 1100DX which is 40% off. Or for a similar price I can buy a second hand Bernina 700D.
Does anyone have any advice?
Also, any advice on features that I need? I have never used an overlocker before.
I'm Looking forward to hearing what you lovely ladies have to say...

OMG - I'm Quilting!

That's what I was saying to myself as I was sewing along. I am just soooo excited! I am actually getting somewhere with my first ever quilt.
I haven't told you yet but, I enrolled in a local community course in patchwork/quilting, and it's fabulous! It's making me go through the steps that would usually scare me so much, that I would pack it away for another day - that never comes.
I just wanted to quickly share that with you. I better go and get dressed. I am off to New Zealand's biggest quilting show today "Calico Christmas". I am hoping to pick up some goodies.
